Bougainville Indigenous Dialogue (BID) is a Bougainville-based NGO that works towards a peaceful, harmonious and democratic Bougainville while upholding traditional values of kastom. BID practices and encourages non-violent and peaceful means of resolving conflict. It was founded by Bougainvillean peacebuilders from Ioro, Bolave and Eivo-Torau Constituencies in the Panguna and Bana Districts. BID developed out of the Panguna Dialogue Project. BID addresses women and men equally and has a gender-balanced membership.

Bougainville Indigenous Dialogue has the following objectives:

  • To conduct community dialogues to provide safe spaces for Bougainvilleans to discuss problems and issues and find solutions.
  • To conduct awareness raising with regards to the referendum on independence and other important political issues.
  • To support reconciliations, conflict resolution and peacebuilding in a Melanesian way.
  • To make the voices of the communities heard in government, NGOs and the international community.
  • To provide training and education in dialogue facilitation, conflict resolution and peacebuilding.
  • To build capacity and empower local community leadership.
  • To fit kastom with today’s changes.
